The class parents’ committee

Every kindergarten group and every class has a parents’ committee. It is made up of 3 parents: a chair and 2 members.

The committee represents the parents of the class in their dealings with the primary teacher or form teacher, the class council, the Teachers’ Council and the school’s management.

How it is elected

  • The kindergarten teacher, primary teacher or form teacher calls the general meeting of parents within the first 15 days after the start of classes.
  • Parents elect the committee by vote, by simple majority.
  • The committee is elected again every school year.

What the committee does

  • puts into practice the decisions of the general meeting of parents;
  • supports the class’s educational and extracurricular activities;
  • supports programmes on safety and on preventing violence and absenteeism;
  • can help, as volunteers, with looking after and equipping the classroom and the school;
  • helps keep children safe during activities outside the classroom.

Contributions are voluntary

Important: No contribution from parents is compulsory. Financial support can only be given through the parents’ association with legal personality, in compliance with the law. Pupils and school staff are prohibited from collecting or handling money.

A sponsorship received by a class does not give any additional rights to the children or parents.

The Parents’ Representative Council

At school level there is a Parents’ Representative Council. It is made up of the chairs of the class parents’ committees. The Council elects a president and two vice-presidents.

The Representative Council:

  • appoints the parents’ representatives on the Board of Directors and on the school’s committees;
  • discusses the school’s Rules of Organisation and Operation;
  • proposes optional subjects;
  • supports the school’s partnerships and its programmes against absenteeism and violence.

How to contact the committee

For the class committee, ask the primary teacher or form teacher. For the Parents’ Representative Council, write to or call the school’s school office. Your message will be passed on to the president of the council.

Good to know: For reasons of personal data protection, the names of the parents on the committees are not published on the website. The school may publish the name of the president of the Parents’ Representative Council only with their consent.
