What scholarships there are

Pupils in state education enrolled in full-time courses can receive scholarships from the state budget. The rules are set by the framework methodology approved by Government Decision no. 732/2025, as subsequently amended. The amount of the scholarships is set for each school year.

The following are relevant for pupils at our school:

  • the merit scholarship, for lower secondary pupils (grades 5–8);
  • the social scholarship, for primary and lower secondary pupils in one of the situations provided for by the methodology.

Pupils may also receive other scholarships, awarded by the local authorities or under contracts with other persons or institutions.

Important: The merit scholarship and the social scholarship are awarded only to pupils who passed all subjects and had a conduct mark of 10 (or the highest qualifier) at the end of the previous school year.

The merit scholarship

Under the methodology, the merit scholarship is awarded to:

  • pupils in grades 6–8 with an overall average of at least 9.00 in the previous school year, for no more than 15% of the pupils in each class, in descending order of averages;
  • pupils in grade 5, based on an average of at least 9.00 over the first teaching periods of the current school year.

Pupils with the same average as the last beneficiary determined by applying the 15% rate also receive the scholarship. The list of proposed pupils is drawn up for each class.

The social scholarship

The social scholarship supports pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, from vulnerable groups or with medical conditions. It is awarded on application. Under the methodology, it can be received by, among others:

  • pupils from families with an average net monthly income per family member of less than 50% of the national minimum net wage, calculated over the last 12 months;
  • pupils who have lost one or both parents and pupils in foster care;
  • pupils with certain medical conditions, classified according to the criteria provided for by the methodology;
  • pupils with cancer or chronic illnesses who have been in hospital or schooled at home for a longer period, under the conditions of the methodology;
  • pupils from families receiving the minimum inclusion income.

The application and deadlines

The application for the social scholarship is submitted by the parent or legal representative at the school’s school office. Under the methodology, the deadline is 25 calendar days from the start of classes. The list of beneficiaries may be supplemented monthly, for pupils whose situation has changed during the school year.

The documents required depend on the pupil’s situation. As a rule, the application file includes:

  • the application from the parent or legal representative;
  • a sworn statement of income and consent to data processing, when the scholarship is requested on income grounds;
  • documents proving the situation (for example, income certificates, a death certificate, medical documents, the decision on the minimum inclusion income);
  • the details of the bank account into which the scholarship is paid.

Good to know: The full list of documents, the deadlines and the amounts of the scholarships for the 2026-2027 school year are communicated by the school’s school office and displayed on the notice board.

Payment of the scholarship

Scholarships are paid monthly, by transfer into the bank account indicated. Amounts received as a scholarship are not taxed.

If the family’s situation changes during the year (for example, if income changes), please inform the school’s school office.

The full text of the methodology is published on the website of the Ministry of Education and Research and in the Official Gazette (Monitorul Oficial).
