What the National Assessment is
What the National Assessment is
The National Assessment (Evaluarea Națională) is a set of tests held in all schools in the country, following the same methodology and the same calendar. The methodology and calendar are approved every year by order of the Minister of Education.
There are two types of assessment:
- the assessments at the end of grades 2, 4 and 6, which show what pupils have learned and what needs to be improved;
- the National Assessment for grade 8 graduates, an exam that counts towards admission to upper secondary school (liceu).

These assessments take place at school, in the second part of the school year, usually in May. The results are not entered in the class register and do not affect the pupil’s average. They help primary teachers, teachers and parents see where the child needs support.
Pupils take tests in:
- grade 2: Romanian (writing and reading) and mathematics;
- grade 4: Romanian and mathematics;
- grade 6: language and communication, and mathematics and natural sciences.

At the end of grade 8, pupils take written tests in:
- Romanian language and literature;
- mathematics;
- mother-tongue language and literature, for pupils who have studied in their mother tongue.
Before the exam, in the spring, there is a mock exam. The mock exam helps pupils get used to the type of questions and how the exam is run. The mock exam results do not count towards admission.
The average obtained in the National Assessment counts towards the calculation of the admission average for upper secondary school. You can find details on the Admission page.

For the 2026-2027 school year, the Ministry has put the draft methodology and calendar for the National Assessment of grade 8 graduates out to public consultation. According to the draft, the mock exam takes place in March 2027 and the written tests in the second half of June 2027.
Important: The final dates are those in the Minister’s order as approved and published in the Official Gazette (Monitorul Oficial). The school displays the official calendar and communicates it to pupils and parents through the form teacher.
Registration, results and appeals
Registration, results and appeals
- Registration takes place at school, through the form teacher, during the period set in the calendar.
- The results are displayed at the school and on evaluare.edu.ro. On the website, the results appear without pupils’ names.
- Appeals are submitted at school, within the period set in the calendar. Before appealing, the pupil may ask to see their paper, if that year’s methodology provides for this.
Good to know: The forms for viewing the paper and for appeals can be obtained from the school’s school office during the period set in the calendar.
